Uwb and 802.11n will be competing for the same market but they will probably both find their own niches. Uwb has lower power so may be more suitable for portable applications…….
The advantage of Zigbee over Bluetooth in this type of application is that is uses a mesh rather than star topology. With Bluetooth, for example, you can have a laptop with three Bluetooth devices connected to it in a star formation. With Zigbee, there can be tens or hundreds of nodes around a building so, to reach a node that is out of range, the message can be passed via other nodes.As well as the security application, this could also be used to control lighting in a tunnel, where the Zigbee device in each lamp can relay messages to other lamps through the tunnel, saving on wiring.Home automation is also befitting from wireless lan technology, and the 802.11n variant has the speed to send hdtv around a home.
