Today’s resignation of FCC Chairman Michael
Powell
will have wide implications for wireless carriers, especially in terms of which among the candidates to be
his replacement will look favorably upon their industry and initiatives. Contenders for the job include FCC
commissioner Kevin Martin, National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA) Director Michael
Gallagher, and Becky Klein, former head of the Texas Public Utility Commission.

If it were up to the wireless industry, they would like to see Gallagher get the job, since his resume includes a
stint as a vice president of state public policy at Verizon Wireless.
